Forms Of Struggle

Struggle is negative emotion. It’s an indicator that something is wrong. Struggle is part of the human experience but that doesn’t mean it can’t be resolved. Recognition of struggle is always the first step towards relief. Once we’ve identified that we’re struggling with something we can dive deeper into its contents.

We should identify what the origin of our struggle is and why we feel this way. Are we worried about the future? Or dwelling on the past? Are we doing something that’s causing struggle? Or is it our inaction? With questions like these, we can give our struggle a name. Some frequent fliers include anxiety, depression, fear, aversion, and denial.

Understanding what form of struggle we’re experiencing is just as valuable as understanding that we’re struggling. The more specific the diagnosis, the more accurate the remedy. Once we’ve identified our antagonist, we should determine whether its painful or merely uncomfortable.

Some forms of struggle should be alleviated as soon as possible. Many struggles, however, should be embraced. They should be studied during their presence, searched for a deeper meaning, only to be pulled at their roots later on. This is the difference between pain and discomfort. One should be mitigated while the other should be welcomed.
